Weather: I opened the windows and back door early this morning in hopes of catching the last of the cool air. It is very toasty today (84 ºF). I believe it is supposed to be this way all week.
On My Mind: I am feeling out of touch with the world these days and for the first time felt concerned about the current economy. After Goosie was born, three years ago, I left the 9-5 work force for good. I started my own business and yes, things have been slow, but I am not actively pursuing work either. Whether through snippets on the news or splash screens on the internet, I hear the "tales of woe"; how people are losing their homes, unemployment is at an all time high, etc. I have numerous friends in the teaching profession that have been given "pink slips", but still have jobs starting in the Fall. We purchased a new vehicle at the end of last year. I know people who are buying homes and making the payments. We too have thought we should seriously start looking into purchasing a home. Basically, things haven't seemed that bad.
Tuesday morning is trash day in our neighborhood. Last week I looked out the front window to see someone rummaging through our recycle bin. I felt annoyed. Then it dawned on me, the trunk of their car was filled with aluminum cans. On Sunday, I received an email from a friend. She wrote that her husband had lost his job. I had to reread her email a few times before it really sunk in. This guy is golden; meaning... good things always happen to him and making money comes easy. He is last person I would have thought to be affected. It all started to feel just a little too close to home. I have been so immersed in ABC's and felt food that I have lost touch with life outside my little world.
Daily Knitting: I did not have much time for knitting this weekend as I had four house guests. Cooking and entertaining took top billing. I am getting close to finishing up my Victoria dress and I am already thinking about my next project. Perhaps a sweater for Allan.
Mothering: I had a discussion yesterday that involved the word “nice”. It is one of those words that is typically used so generically; either to describe someone we do not know very well or someone without outstanding personality traits. In its true form, to be called "nice" is a compliment indeed. Now don't get me wrong, I am generally a nice person, but if you really know me, the term “nice” would probably not be the first adjectives used to describe me. I am a daily example to my daughter; perhaps I should work harder on being considered “nice".
Goosie and I decided to make a few more felt veggies/fruit over the weekend. We have a whole sandwich planned to go with the sliced tomato.

Cooking: I am burned out from having to prepare meals for an additional four people all weekend long. I think cold cereal is on the menu for tonight.
Bit of Randomness: I purchased three Christmas gifts over the weekend. As a result I have had the Twelve Days of Christmas stuck in my head for days.
